The New Orleans Saints have made a ton of valuable additions via free agency and the NFL Draft. But none of them would matter without finding a new franchise quarterback.

They took care of that by signing four-time Pro Bowler Derek Carr who instantly gives them a great shot to win the NFC South which would give the Saints their first playoff appearance since 2020.

Carr has been working to build chemistry with his new teammates. Well, it certainly seems to be working according to tight end Juwan Johnson who says Carr is resembling a certain future Hall of Famer.

"It honestly felt like we've been working with Derek for quite a while now and so OTAs was really good, really smooth," Johnson said, via SiriusXM NFL Radio. "He's giving me more of a feel because he's an older guy. He's giving me a lot of Drew. Going into the huddle, commanding the huddle. The guys gravitating to him. These are things I've seen how Drew conducted the huddle. How Drew conducted the offense and things like that, so it gives me similar feels and so I'm really excited about what Derek has and how he's going to move this offense."

Now that's the ultimate compliment.

Carr is already forming a bond with other players besides Johnson.

Michael Thomas got his deal reworked earlier this offseason. Thomas made such an impression on Carr that he was mentioned in his introductory press conference and it's translated to the field as well.

"When we're talking we're talking the same language," Carr said of Thomas. "Time on task, and things like that, that'll happen, it'll happen quick because we're veteran guys. Game reps is obviously the most important thing."

Brees endorsed the Saints bringing Carr in back in March. However, filling his shoes is an astronomical task and one that won't be easy for Carr.

Carr understands what Brees meant to the Saints, though, and he's been working to carry on the legacy that he left behind.

"I've been really studying Drew," said Carr earlier this month. "And the way that he made decisions because now I know the offense, a little bit. As you continue to watch him you understand why he's making certain decisions because he was around these guys more times than I've been around them."

The fact that Carr is hitting the film room to see what Brees did to be a successful player in New Orleans proves how he takes this new opportunity seriously.
