The New Orleans Saints are looking to lock down one of their franchise greats on defense. According to a report by The Associated Press, the Saints and Cameron Jordan are in talks about a multi-year contract extension. The star pass rusher is playing on the final year of his current three-year deal.
Jordan's agent, Doug Hendrickson of Wasserman, told The Associated Press on Monday he has discussed an extension of at least two years with New Orleans and aims to complete a deal before the start of training camp in late July. — The Associated Press
Jordan is the all-time leader in sacks in New Orleans Saints franchise history. He is 34 years old. He's also missed just two of 194 career regular season games.
Jordan envisions this potential extension as the final contract for his career. Of course, he would like to end his career as a Saint. He has spent his entire playing career in the NFL in New Orleans.
“If we get a deal done, that’ll be probably the final years of my career here… Whatever happens, happens. In terms of how we play – how we want to attack offenses – that’s what I’m here for.” — Jordan
Jordan totaled 8.5 sacks a season ago for the Saints. He generated more impressive pressure than those numbers would show, but he had little help on the pass rush. Carl Granderson was the lone other rusher that showed any consistency.
That should be different this season after additions like Isaiah Foskey and Bryan Bresee. The Saints could add another edge rusher in free agency as well.
Regardless, New Orleans is trying to extend a Saints legend.
