The New Orleans Saints have lost five games in a row. They're one of the worst teams in football over the past month of play. During that time, some notable pieces to their roster have been on the shelf for some amount of time.
- Taysom Hill
- Cesar Ruiz
- Pete Werner
- Erik McCoy
- Lucas Patrick
- Chris Olave
Saints could get back many key players from injury
Many of those aforementioned players may return to New Orleans' lineup in Week 8, according to Nick Underhill. They'll face the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday afternoon.
All four of those players can be the difference in a wine and loss for New Orleans against a team like Los Angeles. Ruiz has been missed dearly on the inside of the offensive line for New Orleans.
Landon Young has started in his place, but it has been an inconsistent process for the young lineman. As for Taysom, the Saints are a different offense with his threatening presence on the field. That's been clear since he went on the shelf a month ago.
The running game has not been nearly as efficient without Hill, and his potential to throw the football could add in a couple of unique opportunities, especially if Spencer Rattler starts on Sunday.
The Saints wide receiver unit had their issues in Week 7. Bub Means and Mason Tipton totaled some solid production, but there's a clear impact difference between those two and players like Olave and Rashid Shaheed.
Keep an eye out on the practice statuses for this handful of players this week. If all of them can return for New Orleans, their depth chart looks a lot more formidable for a victory that they must get to stay alive this season.
