The New Orleans Saints are busy creating a new coaching staff under new head coach Kellen Moore. Meanwhile. they are also apparently open to adding to their roster for 2025, too.

The Saints made a notable move, bringing back a local native to try to earn a roster spot for next season.

Saints sign running back

According to multiple reports, the Saints are bringing back Clyde Edwards-Helaire on a one-year deal. The former LSU Tigers running back finished last season in New Orleans as depth at RB behind Alvin Kamara.

He has played in 50 regular season games with 32 starts for the Chiefs (2020-23), and Saints (2024), carrying 454 times for 1,891 yards (4.2 avg.) with 12 touchdowns, while catching 92 passes for 789 yards (8.6 avg.) with seven touchdowns.

Edwards-Helaire's role was a bit limited with New Orleans, but he showed flashes of impressive play. In two games, he rushed for 46 yards on 13 carries and caught three passes for 24 yards. He had the trust of the staff quickly.

All in all, this is a move that won't affect the starting unit for the black and gold next year, but it does provide experience in the backfield. Kendre Miller missed most of this past season, yet again, due to injury.

Running back is a position that the Saints may look to address later in the 2025 NFL Draft or through free agency, outside of Edwards-Helaire.

Kellen Moore sounded extremely confident in Alvin Kamara going forward, during his introductory presser on Thursday. There's no doubt that he believes in the Saints' star RB.

Let's see how the rest of the RB room shakes out in the coming months for Moore. Saquon Barkley set records and led the offensive charge for his Philadelphia Eagles offense this past season. That earned them a Super Bowl title.
