The New Orleans Saints got a massive win against the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 17.
It was a complete performance. The offense made plays when they needed them. Special teams was clean. The defense dominated against one of the best offenses in football in the Eagles.
Dennis Allen and his staff deserve plenty of credit.
That being said, it really could have been an even larger victory for the Saints. The lone touchdown they gave up was avoidable.
Gardner Minshew launched a deep pass to an open A.J. Brown, and he scampered over 40 yards for the score. Saints cornerback Paulson Adebo was in coverage against Brown.
Adebo has been inconsistent at times this season, and big plays have killed him. for whatever reason, Dennis Allen chose to play Adebo as the starter opposite Marshon Lattimore today.
Alontae Taylor deserves that role after how he has played this year in his rookie campaign. He's made vital plays on defense for the Saints, but he didn't play a snap today. That is inexcusable for a defense that relies on energy.
Taylor provides that weekly.
The return of Lattimore pushed him back to a depth role, but it should not have. The Saints should have had him playing over Adebo today, and it could have costed them big time.
Luckily, in the closing minutes, Lattimore came up with a pick-six to make it a two-score game. The Saints never looked back.
Regardless, the decision to play Adebo over Taylor didn't make much sense.
