The New Orleans Saints haven't won a Super Bowl since the 2009 season. However, there's been one constant for over a decade that's been very positive.
Cam Jordan was drafted by the Saints in 2011 with the 24th overall pick. Since then, Jordan has tallied 115.5 sacks, earned eight Pro Bowl selections, and three All-Pro nods, establishing himself as one of the best edge rushers in the NFL and a top player in Saints history.
One man who has seen every step of Jordan's career has been general manager Mickey Loomis. On Tuesday, he gave him immense respect.
“He’s going to be able to play for us as long as he wants to and as long as he can," Loomis said. "Then when the time comes, his name will be up in that Ring of Honor and the Hall of Fame & all those other accolades that come with a player of his stature.”
It's not like Jordan is an old veteran on his last leg. His 66 tackles in 2022 were the second most of his career and also registered 8.5 sacks and a Pro Bowl nod (sixth straight).
Not only will the Saints need Jordan's production in 2023 but with rookies Bryan Bresee and Isaiah Foskey on the roster as his guidance and leadership will be key on the defensive line. The better they are the easier Jordan's task will be and can prolong his career which up until this point has been nothing but consistency.
Jordan is looking for one more deal to finish out his time in the NFL and with the Saints. It's clear Loomis doesn't have any problem obliging him in that desire so it's likely just a matter of time before it happens.
