The New Orleans Saints are now right back in the playoff race as they get a huge win over the Las Vegas Raiders. After a 24-0 win on Sunday, they are now just one game behind the Atlanta Falcons, who are in first place in the NFC South.
It didn't look great a few weeks ago, but now it is looking even better. And, not t mention they can get healthy being on a long week, as they play on Monday Night Football in Week 9.
Not to mention, head coach Dennis Allen knows exactly how to win, and even told everyone what the blueprint is from here on out.
"Well, it's not just us, I just think that's the recipe for success in our league," Allen said after the win over Las Vegas. "We won the time of possession battle. We won the third-down battle. I feel like we were getting them into a decent amount of third and longer situations. You know, we didn't have a ton of penalties in the game, we still have some things we have to clean up.
"I thought we ran the ball effectively, we did a good job of stopping the run, and we didn't give up any explosive plays. Yeah, there was a lot of good things. The ability to run the football, stop the run, and creating some explosives is a big part of trying to win in our league."
Allen is right. They know the blueprint, it's just about executing it every game. And, that is easier said than done, but they did it Sunday. Now, they have to consistently do the things Allen talked about, but every game. When you can do that, the win comes easy.
The defense did its job. They locked up the run game when Jacobs had been on a tear the three weeks before this one. Heck, they allowed the Raiders to cross midfield just once the entire game.
This team can still make the playoffs. They have the blueprint right in front of them, they just have to look at this game as an example.
