The New Orleans Saints have a lot of questions to answer during this off-season.
They took care of one of those already when they traded away former head coach Sean Payton for NFL draft compensation. They still must round out the rest of their defensive staff.
As for the roster, it sounds like they'll move on from wide receiver Michael Thomas. Could other veterans head out the door as well? Who will they bring in to replace some of their defensive line pieces that are sure to leave in free agency? Only time will tell on those questions.
The Saints must address the biggest conundrum within their team once again this off-season.
That's the quarterback position.
The Saints cannot go into next season with Andy Dalton as their starter once again.
Jameis Winston could be in the mix to be the start again, but that situation could get a bit awkward after last season's QB debacle.
Accordingly, it sounds like the Saints are weighing basically every option in the book right now. From drafting a QB in the first couple rounds of the draft to trading or signing a veteran starter, everything is on the table.
Las Vegas Raiders QB Derek Carr has been a hot name as of late.
Las Vegas is planning to move on from him, and Carr has shown hat he can be a stable starting QB in the NFL at times in his career. Carr was with Dennis Allen on the Raiders in Allen's final season with the organization.
In nine seasons, Carr has completed 64% of his passes for just over 35,000 yards, 217 touchdowns, and 99 interceptions.
There have been highs and lows for Carr with the Raiders. At times, with the correct pieces, he has looked like a franchise QB. At other times, he's looked quite mediocre and replaceable.
It has truly been a mixed bag for him, but the Saints could provide him with some offense stability.
They have talented playmakers like Alvin Kamara, Chris Olave, Taysom Hill, and others. Their offensive line is very solid when healthy as well. Hopefully, the play-calling will improve, too.
The Saints seem like one of the fits that make the most sense for the veteran QB, but will they pull the trigger and trade for him? We will find out very soon.
