The New Orleans Saints are in a bit of a situation with Alvin Kamara. The star running back departed from mandatory minicamp early last week. That raised some eyebrows, especially when his agent confirmed that his departure was contract-related.
It's been well-known over the past week that Kamara is seeking a new contract. The veteran running back is open to a reworked two-year deal for the upcoming season and next season.
"I'm told Kamara is open to doing a reworked two-year deal, strengthen his guarantees in year one. They've talked about it. So far, not a lot of momentum. We'll see if something shakes out. He could be a threat to miss training camp if they don't get something done before late July." — Jeremy Fowler via Sportscenter
That deal, for Kamara, would ideally have more guaranteed money for this year on it. He's looking to cash in a bit more before he turns thirty years of age soon. It does make some sense, and the Saints are better and more dynamic with the RB on the field for their offense.
Jamaal Williams supports Alvin Kamara's attempt at a new deal
“Me personally, just as me as a man, I respect everybody as the man they are and the decisions they make as a man. Alvin is a tremendous, great teammate, awesome person, 100 percent. He stays 10 toes down on his business and what he believes in. That’s just him. I’m behind him 100 percent of what he does because he’s just looking for his well-being. That’s all we want for each other."
“It’s just part of the game that we do. These are the type of things, once you believe in something you believe in, I’m with you 100 percent. That’s just your decision.”

The move by Williams shouldn't surprise anyone. He's known as one of the best teammates in the locker room for New Orleans.
His personality is gleaming, both on and off of the football field. His teammates have a ton of respect for him, and he repays that respect and confidence with decisions like this one.
Williams slots in alongside young RB Kendre Miller as depth options at RB for New Orleans. They are both expected to make an impact under new OC Klint Kubiak, regardless, though. Let's see if Kamara remains ahead of them on the depth chart.
