The New Orleans Saints had a disappointing campaign in 2023-2024. Even at nine wins, they were NFC South favorites and potential dark horses in the NFC. Now, they sit at home during the postseason.
They're keeping Dennis Allen during this offseason. That discussion can end. Multiple insiders/sources have confirmed that Allen will get to, at least, start another season for the Saints as their head coach.
Meanwhile, three veteran, proven coaches have been moved on from by their respective teams. Bill Belichick, Mike Vrabel, and Pete Carroll were all let go by their team in some capacity.
Belichick won six Super Bowls as the head coach for the Patriots in his recent tenure. He's arguably the greatest coach of all-time.
Vrabel won a coach of the year award and was a respected, hard-nosed leader around the NFL. Carroll was one of the most consistent coaches in the league, despite having less-talented rosters than some of the other older coaches in the NFL. They are both much more qualified than the Saints head coach.
All three have ridiculously impressive resumés. Meanwhile, Dennis Allen is a retread who has just one winning season (2023) in his head coaching career.
Not to mention, tension increased in the locker room this past season. There was a reported 'rift' during the season when the team hit some bumpy roads.
There's seemingly a lack of leadership/accountability from the head coach. Not to mention, the trust is lacking between the head coach and his players.
When asked, Saints veteran Cameron Jordan avoided saying that Allen is believed in by the players. Instead, he just noted that he is the team's head coach. That is all.
All in all, the Saints are submitting to mediocrity with the decision to keep DA. The Atlanta Falcons just fired Arthur Smith after three playoff-less, frustrating seasons. At least they're willing to admit their prior mistake.
Is the difference in 21 regular season wins in three years and 16 wins in two years really that much? Neither team every saw the postseason. Not to mention, they've played in one of the worst divisions in the league over the past two years.
Meanwhile, New Orleans will 'keep continuity' by keeping their HC with a career NFL HC record of 24-46. The jury is out on Allen, and many folks can see that. The Saints front office are not those folks, though.
Dennis Allen somehow loses his locker room in blowout win over Falcons
You would think that a 48-17 victory over your biggest rival would have no negatives for the winning coach. That's not the case for New Orleans Saints head coach Dennis Allen. With the late-game drama in their victory over the Atlanta Falcons, Allen proved some things that fans have feared to be true over the […]
