The New Orleans Saints are amidst one of the toughest days of the football offseason. They are shaving their roster total from 90 players down to an initial53-man roster.

More moves will follow before Week 1, but a bulk of them happen before 3 p.m. CT on Tuesday afternoon. With cuts and waives, injury list moves also occur quite often on cutdown day. The Saints are expected to make a notable transaction with young running back Kendre Miller.

Saints plan to place Kendre Miller on IR

Miller got hurt on the first day of training camp. He has not practiced or played since, coercing some strong statements via head coach Dennis Allen over the past couple of months. Allen has been brutally honest bout Miller's lack of availability since getting drafted in 2023.

“That’s a player who needs to figure out how to stay healthy because you can’t make the team in the training room” — Allen on Kendre Miller

Miller missed nine games last season for New Orleans due to injury. Now, he is behind the other RB options in learning a new system because of his hamstring ailment.

Players cannot truly prevent injuries, but at some point, you must stay available in order to have role on a team. That's just how it works in the NFL. Allen has made that clear regarding Miller and others this offseason.

With the move, Miller will be forced to miss at least the first four games of the 2024 season.

Accordingly, expect Jordan Mims to make the roster as New Orleans' third running back to begin the year behind Alvin Kamara and Jamaal Williams. James Robinson and Jacob Kibodi were both released on tuesday morning.
