The New Orleans Saints have a kicker problem. In actuality, it isn't a bad problem. Their situation is a good problem, as they have two NFL-level kickers on their roster currently. Both veteran Wil Lutz and Blake Grupe deserve a roster spot, but both may not be able to make the cut.
Both players have impressed consistently during the offseason, and Lutz made another highlight before they kicked off versus the Houston Texans on Sunday night. Lutz hit a 60-yard field goal in warm-ups.
Lutz may have the upper hand in the competition due to his experience. He's an NFL vet that received a new deal this offseason. After a couple of inconsistent years, he looks back to his reliable self.
Grupe is young, but he's been great in the preseason. The moment hasn't been too big for the rookie, and the Saints probably wouldn't be able to place him on the practice squad without losing him. He'd have to clear waivers, and too many teams need a starting boot to pass up on Grupe.
It will be interesting to see how the Saints navigate their kicker position battle this week.
