As of now, the Saints have the third overall pick in next year's draft. That will change on a weekly basis, but they are only behind the Jacksonville Jaguars and New England Patriots at the moment. The latest injury news for the Jags is intriguing for New Orleans.
Trevor Lawrence injury
The Jaguars starting quarterback is unlikely to play in Week 10, according to Ian Rapoport. He is dealing with a shoulder injury, and surgery is a possibility. If he misses time, Mac Jones would enter as the starter in Jacksonville.
Pederson's comments came on the same day the Jaguars reunited with backup quarterback C.J. Beathard, who was signed off the Miami Dolphins' practice squad. Beathard spent the previous three seasons as Lawrence's No. 2, only to be released as part of final roster cuts in August. Lawrence has had his flaws in 2024, but there is no doubt that he is the best option in the QB room for the Jaguars this season.
Mounting losses could make it more difficult for the Saints to secure a pick in the top five of next year's draft. Of course, New Orleans' goal is to turn this season around, but that is all but impossible at this point.
