Saints lose player in unexpected fashion as he returns to former team following injury to star player
He is going back to the AFC.
The New Orleans Saints will be back on the lookout for receiving depth for their offense after a recent decision by an AFC foe. The Miami Dolphins are making a move to bring back one of their former playmakers that has spent a lot of recent time in black and gold.
Dolphins steal Cedrick Wilson Jr. from Saints after Tyreek Hill injury
The Dolphins are expected to sign experienced WR Cedrick Wilson Jr. off New Orleans’ practice squad, according to Tom Pelissero and other reports. This move comes after the gruesome, season-ending injury that star WR Tyreek Hill suffered in Week 4 during Monday Night Football.
This move creates some depth for Miami following a massive loss for the upside of their offense. Jaylen Waddle is still in the fold for their passing offense, but past him, the talent is limited for Miami. Wilson is a veteran player with a lot of snaps in the pros.
Wilson’s job with New Orleans became mightily endangered when the team traded for former Denver Broncos wide receiver Devaughn Vele. With that move, the offense acquired depth and another big-bodied WR option for the unit. Wilson Jr. became more expendable, ending up on the practice squad after multiple transactions between it and the active roster.
For New Orleans, Tommy Mellott and Kevin Austin Jr. are the only wideouts remaining on the PS. The Saints could look to add another one in the coming days, simply in case of injuries.
As for Wilson, he returns to a familiar place. He played for the Dolphins from 2022-2023, totaling 432 yards and three touchdowns on 34 catches. He also has extensive special teams experience. This move makes plenty of sense for him to garner more playing time. His role was nonexistent with the Saints so far this season.
