The New Orleans Saints know what they have at the top of their running back depth chart. Filling out the lower half of it has been the challenge during this offseason. Dwayne Washington will be the third RB on the roster, but most of his work will be on special teams. They've been contemplating who tho to have as their RB4. One of their most recent roster moves is telling.

Rookie Abram Smith was in the running for a roster spot alongside RB Tony Jones Jr. It looks like Jones Jr. has taken that role. The veteran provides too much value on the ground and on special teams for the Saints to let him go.

It will be interesting to see what they do with Kirk Merritt, though. The RB/WR has flashed throughout the preseason and can also return kicks. He is a valuable player that provides an impact on multiple levels for the Saints.

Regardless, it looks like Jones Jr. will remain in his role for the Saints from last season behind Alvin Kamara and Mark Ingram.
