Saints met with Miami QB Cam Ward
According to Nick Underhill, the Saints met with Miami Hurricanes QB Cam Ward. Ward is widely regarded as one of the top two QB prospects in this year's draft class.
If New Orleans wants Ward badly enough, they'd have to trade up. He is selected in the top three picks of nearly every mock draft you will see heading into April.
If he is not the first overall pick by the Tennessee Titans or a team that trades up with the Titans, Ward could be taken second overall by the Cleveland Browns or third overall by the New York Giants.
There's no question that Cam Ward has improved since taking the leap from Incarnate Word to Washington State to Miami. He's become more consistent throughout key areas of his game, and his physical traits are worth banking on as NFL offenses require higher-tier abilities to solve complex defensive schemes. However, his NFL future will boil down to how well Ward can improve his weaknesses as much as build on his positives. He has to recognize defensive alignments and where he can find easy wins, then avoid ego-driven mistakes. He's a high-risk, high-reward prospect. — Ian Valentino
Ward is ranked as the top QB prospect in the class at A to Z Sports. Valentino's player comparison for him is Deshaun Watson before his injuries in recent years.
All in all, this meeting could be nothing. On the flip-side, it may show New Orleans' hand when it comes to their interests in taking a quarterback early in the 2025 NFL Draft.
That has not been the consensus recently, and there have even been reports this week regarding an expectation that Derek Carr will be the starter next season for the Saints. It is a big decision for new HC Kellen Moore.
No matter what – New Orleans seems to be checking all their boxes this week at the NFL Scouting Combine when it comes to talking to prospects.
Saints insider unveils a key update on Derek Carr’s future with the team as their potential starting QB under Kellen Moore
The New Orleans Saints won't lack important choices to make this offseason. The quarterback position is one that's seemingly been up in the air, even since Kellen Moore landed the head-coaching job with the team. There seems to be some clarity on the Derek Carr front now, though. Derek Carr expected to start in 2025 […]
