Mickey Loomis made magic happen once again for the Saints
The front office makes moves.
The New Orleans Saints own over fifteen million dollars in cap space currently. Yes, you read that correctly. After entering the off-season over $50 million over the salary cap, they have created plenty of space to make impactful moves and sign their draft class.
Accordingly, they have started to do that by adding some depth on both the offensive and defensive line. Additionally, of course, they signed quarterback Derek Carr.
The Saints re-signed impact players tight end Juwan Johnson and special teams star J.T. Gray, too. Adding running back Jamaal Williams to the offense will be vital as well.
Their latest moves have shown how unique they are when it comes to contract structures.
The Saints front office know exactly how to make the most of their salary cap. It can be a volatile game plan financially, but they make it work for the most part.
Jameis Winston's one-year extension is a perfect example of the work by Mickey Loomis and Khai Harley.
Winston's modest base salary and incentive-heavy deal provides the Saints with a high-upside backup QB at an affordable price. That is exactly what the Saints needed behind a guy like Derek Carr.
Carr will be their starter for the foreseeable future, so don't be surprised to see this tactic used once again next off-season by the Saints.
