The New Orleans Saints have a new head coach for, at minimum, the rest of their 2024 season in the building. Darren Rizzi is their leader, and he is making adjustments to their daily schedule.
Rizzi talked to the media again on Wednesday, the first time since Monday afternoon when he addressed everyone regarding the firing of Dennis Allen. Rizzi listed two noteworthy changes for the Saints' week-to-week activities going forward.
Practice schedule adjusted
New Orleans has added an activation period to the start of practice, a bit of a shift from the stretches that were during an early portion of the practices under Allen. They think it could help with the injury issue.
"It's no secret we've gone through soft tissue injuries … it's concerning."
The defense and offense also swapped ends of the field for practice drills. It was a unique curveball that was simply to make a swap. There was not a direct reasoning for it, outside of a shift for players and a new look under a new HC.
New locker room layout
Position groups are now grouped together in the locker room. Many players had to move locker spots, and Rizzi felt that it was a positive change. Players can now talk even more often to other players at their position.
After meetings, they do not have to all find each other to discuss what they learned or adjustments they want to make. It makes plenty of sense.
“Here I am trying to preach bonding together and circle the wagons.”
We will see if the transitions move to wins for New Orleans to finish the latter half of the season.
