Kellen Moore and his coaches continue to build the new staff for the New Orleans Saints. It is an interesting group, with the youngest HC in the NFL at the helm.
Their latest hire may give them an upper hand at landing a notable 2025 NFL Draft prospect.
Saints hire Terry Joseph to defensive staff
New Orleans is reportedly hiring Texans Longhorns secondary coach Terry Joseph as their defensive pass game coordinator.
As Pelissero notes, Joseph has experience with some top-flight college DBs from recent years. One of the best cornerbacks in this year's NFL Draft class spent time working with Joseph this past season.
Jahdae Barron
Texas cornerback Jahdae Barron is an energetic, aggressive piece to a secondary. He's widely expected to go in the first round of this year's draft, and New Orleans needs help in the secondary.
Taking Barron in the top ten would have some notable risk, as he projects best as an inside CB at the pro level. That being said, nickel defenders have become extremely valuable in recent years for NFL circles.
While there may be more exciting defensive backs in the 2025 NFL Draft class, there aren’t many more high floor players than Barron. He profiles to a zone based system on the outside, but has starter upside in that specific system. Inside at nickel, Barron has plus starter upside and could have Pro Bowl potential as he develops.
Barron will not be for everyone, but for the right team, he should be a tremendous football player. His zone instincts, on top of his natural competitiveness, and urgency will be a huge sell to an NFL team on the next level. Barron is as solid as they come. — Ryan Roberts
Just keep in mind Cooper Dejean's pick-six of Patrick Mahomes in the Super Bowl. Other players like Brian Branch and Trent McDuffie have become some of the most notable defenders in the entire league due to their roaming ability on the back end.
For Barron, it will be intriguing to see how much interest the Saints have in him with Joseph on staff. He could be higher on their radar once the veteran assistant reveals more about the prospect.
