This offseason has been filled with changes for the New Orleans Saints offense. One constant from 2023 is quarterback Derek Carr. New offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak has injected some excitement into the offense for 2024.
Carr has been impressive during OTAs so far under his new play-caller, and we will see if he can continue that solid play during training camp and beyond. As of now, things are looking up on offense for the Saints from the outside looking in. Plus, Kubiak is challenging the Saints QB to a level that he's not used to.
Kubiak is pushing Carr very hard to improve
Carr's comments here are interesting because it seems so new to him. It's like he is not used to being held to a high standard and expecting perfection at times.
Is that a subtle nod towards the disservice from former offensive coordinator Pete Carmichael Jr.? You can decide that for yourself.
Carr says that Kubiak holds the veteran QB to a very high standard. He appreciates that because it builds his confidence. He's trying to get as close to perfect play from him as possible on a play-by-play level.
Regardless, it's clear that Kubiak and his coaches run things much differently than the former staff. Many reports from camp say that practices have a better flow and are more upbeat. Players are constantly involved in some sort of physical or mental activity to continue their development.
All in all, it seems like Kubiak and his staff are asking more from the Saints players, and they are delivering so far.
