Saints defender signing deal with division rival
The former Saints DL is headed to a rival.
A New Orleans Saints defensive lineman is headed to an NFC South rival. David Onyemata was a free-agent that wasn't expected to return to New Orleans. That became official today.
Onyemata plans to sign with the Atlanta Falcons, according to reports. The deal is worth $35 million over three years.
This move isn't a surprising one. Current Falcons defensive coordinator Ryan Nielsen spent time with Onyemata in New Orleans when he was the Saints defensive line coach.
They had a strong relationship. Now, that pays off for Atlanta as they add a solid veteran on their defensive line.
For the Saints, interior defensive line remains an area where they will have to make multiple moves to fill the position.
