The Carolina Panthers surprised tons of folks around the NFL on Monday afternoon. The New Orleans Saints' divisional foe chose to bench their young starting quarterback, Bryce Young.

Young is in his second NFL season. Last year was not an impressive statistical output for Young, but his offensive line and weapons were amongst the worst in the league. This season, he has gotten off to another slow start under new head coach Dave Canales.

Former Saints QB Andy Dalton will start for Panthers

The Saints will play the Panthers again in Week 9. There's a possibility that Dalton could start that game for Carolina. Dalton is expectedly happy for the opportunity to now start for the Panthers.

Why is it a notable move for a team that is clearly not going to succeed this season? Well, Canales is the new guy on the block around the organization. He cannot submit to the low expectations for his team.

Based on what Canales has seen so far, he believes that Dalton can give the Panthers an offensive lift. The coach said that Young is their QB after their Week 2 loss on Sunday.

Clearly, there has been a shift in thought process.

Not to mention, Canales did not draft Young. He has no strong ties to him, since he was with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last season as their offensive coordinator.

Regardless, Andy Dalton is getting another opportunity as a veteran starter. It seems to be a trend as he gets older.
