The New Orleans Saints will kick off their training camp festivities next week. However, they had to do a little roster churning beforehand on Tuesday.

New Orleans placed several players on the active/non-football injury and PUP lists including four rookies.

When a player is on the active/non-football injury list it means that he suffered an injury outside of NFL practices or games. Players on this list still count toward the 90-man roster limits before the season starts. If a player on the active/NFI list is still injured or ill by the final roster cutdown date, they can be placed on the reserve/non-football injury or reserve/non-football illness lists and not count towards the 53-man roster limit.

The PUP list is a designation for players who aren't able to physically perform because of football-related injuries. These players can attend meetings plus use the team's training and medical facilities but can't participate in practice.

It's better to have these types of issues now than when the actual season starts. So these youngsters still have plenty of time to recover and contribute in 2023.
