The 2025 NFL Draft will need to be an impactful one for the New Orleans Saints. They have four picks in the first three rounds. Their day three compensation is much more than other recent years.
Plus, the roster needs a makeover at a handful of positions. The Senior Bowl has always been an event for prospects that a ton of NFL teams care about, so this week is an important one around the entire league.
Elijah Arroyo dominating Senior Bowl
The Miami Hurricanes tight end has been impressive in early action during drills at the Senior Bowl. He's widely expected to go sometime on day two off the 2025 NFL Draft.
Last but certainly not least is Miami TE Elijah Arroyo, who had quite the day. Arroyo was the clear best TE of the day and outshined his teammate for the week, Bowling Green's phenom Harold Fannin Jr., in the process. Arroyo's speed and route running led him to dominate one-on-ones. There are multiple talented TEs in Mobile this week, such as Fannin Jr. and Mason Taylor, who many believe are battling to be one of the first TEs taken in the 2025 NFL Draft. Today, Arroyo inserted his name into those arguments, and it'll be interesting to see how each looks in comparison to each other the rest of the week. — Destin Adams
Love the Arroyo fit with Derek Carr. Now, the quarterback next year in New Orleans may not be Carr, but regardless, he is a potential target if they want to upgrade the tight end position.
He's one of the best receiving options in the class, and his vertical ability is not common for the position. If he continues to impress, he could come into play in round two, rather than three.
That'll force teams, like New Orleans, to take him earlier than later on day two of this year's draft.
Juwan Johnson struggled to stay healthy once again in 2024, and Foster Moreau is a cut candidate for salary cap management. Not to mention, Taysom Hill is recovering from a torn ACL.
Running backs
Adams also mentioned two running backs who stood out early in Senior Bowl week.
- Damien Martinez, RB, Miami
- Brashard Smith, RB, SMU
The Saints need to address the RB position on day two or day three of this year's draft. Kendre Miller cannot stay healthy or at least, hasn't proven an ability to do so yet.
Both of these prospect options should be available in rounds 3-7, so they could be on New Orleans' radar. Improving depth behind Alvin Kamara is an important roster decision for this offseason.
All in all, the Senior Bowl can teach teams plenty regarding some prospects. The Saints have always kept a close eye on it, so these names are notable for the upcoming draft class.
