The New Orleans Saints have plenty of confidence in this year's roster. On both sides of the ball, they have depth. In particular, they added some depth at safety during the offseason. Tyrann Mathieu headlines the position, but Marcus Maye is also projected to be an impact defender opposite him. He started ten games for New Orleans last year.

That being said, a potential suspension could be on the table for Maye. Maye received his punishment for a 2021 DUI case earlier this week

The veteran got six months of probation, and Maye's license has been suspended for six months. He also must complete fifty hours of community service. Usually, in the NFL, they wait to hand down a suspension after legal matters are taken care of for players. Now that Maye knows the outcome of that legal case, a suspension from the NFL could be on the horizon.

During practice on Friday, rookie safety Jordan Howden took first-team reps.

It is possible that the Saints are preparing for a suspension for Maye. It could come to open the season – similarly to Alvin Kamara's three-game suspension to open the year.

Howden has made splash plays during the offseason, and the Saints like his upside. That being said, losing Maye would certainly be a tough loss if it occurs. It is a situation worth monitoring going forward for the Saints.
