The New Orleans Saints are in a tough spot. Their offense is struggling and has a plethora of injuries. The defense is inconsistent.
In particular on offense, the Saints have been putrid in the red zone this season. Derek Carr has missed some open receivers, and the running game has stalled. Overall, they've just crumbled in those scenarios, and tough questions are now coming for Carr and company.
The look for Carr is tough. It may look like he's avoiding the hard questions, but there's a concept that many folks are overlooking. No matter what Carr says in that scenario – fans will not be satisfied unless major improvements are made on the field.
The Saints quarterback won't be able to give any specific insights into how they will make adjustments or different plays they may try.
His body language is definitely frustrated, but I don't believe that's towards the media for asking the question. It happens when you have important struggles as the QB of a team that was expected to win their division.
HC Dennis Allen backed up Carr indirectly in his press conference on Wednesday.
The Saints head coach's comments are a bit more of a problem. He refuses to point out that Carr has made too many mistakes so far this season.
Not to mention, Allen has singled players out in the past. He pointed out a Chris Olave mistake earlier this year even. It's not out of the realm of possibility for Allen. The fans would actually appreciate more honesty from Allen and ownership.
Alvin Kamara has been the most honest piece of the franchise recently, and it's helped him keep trust within the Saints fan base.
Regardless, Carr has to step up. His words in a press conference won't earn any of the fans in New Orleans back. His play can, but that will be difficult at this point.
