Jameis Winston was supposed to be the big replacement for when Drew Brees retired for the New Orleans Saints, and he was, actually. Was he what we thought he would be? No really, but some of that isn't his fault, and some of it is.

Winston has spent the last two seasons playing through and dealing with injuries. Of course, he hasn't played through every decision like the season-ending one last season, but he has tried his best to do so when he could.

So much so, that it affected his play this season, which is part of the reason Dennis Allen chose Andy Dalton over him. Allen wanted Winston to get healthy, and he did. Now he knows what he has to do for this 2023 season, one that is one of the most crucial seasons in his career.

"But technically I'm not a free agent just yet," Winston said on NFL Network. "I have one more year under contract. But man, my main thing right now is making sure I just stay healthy and be ready to play. Like that's the only thing that's on my mind, I gotta be ready to play because I know when given the opportunity to look forward to taking advantage of it."

This season is so crucial for Winston because he is set to be a free agent after this year. If this year goes terribly wrong, Winston could be a guy we see on his way out of the league or a career backup, and I think most know the talent is there.

The Former Florida State Seminole has had to miss significant times nine times since 2017 due to injuries. Last season it was the ACL, and this year it was the fractured back or vertebrae, per Draftshark.com

Getting healthy should be his biggest goal by far.
