The New Orleans Saints have been struggling, to say the least. they have issues that can't be fixed, starting with injuries, which is a huge reason why they are 2-5 right now. however, they are only half of a game out of the first-place spot in the NFC South division.

So, this team still has a chance. But, there are things that need to be fixed before they can get to where they want to be. One of the biggest things has been the inability to finish drives with a touchdown when getting to the red zone.

On Thursday, now starting quarterback Andy Dalton was asked about what the exact problem is when they get to the opposite side of the field. In my opinion, what he said is exactly right.

"Yeah, when you are down there, I think you have to be efficient on first and second down," Dalton said. I think if you look at the drives we haven't scored touchdowns, you would say we are in a third-and-long situation down there. and so I think that is the biggest thing that we need to be really effective on first and second down to give us an opportunity, or score on first and second down. That helps too. I think that is the biggest thing. Third and long situations in the red zone are pretty tough."

Dalton has been in this league for a while and has been a starter before who played at a Pro Bowl level, so he does kind of know what he is talking about.

I have seen a ton of fans and others blame their struggles on other things when it comes to scoring, but to be frank, this is the biggest issue. This is 2022, and you can't win a game in this era by kicking field goals. That is just how it is.

This team has the 10th-best third-down completion percentage in the league at 41.94%, according to TeamRankings.com, but for some reason when they get in the red zone all of that goes away. It needs to be fixed soon if they want to start winning games.
