New Orleans Saints quarterback Tyler Shough will be one of the top candidates to win Rookie of the Year for his performance this past season, but the future is what matters the most to both Shough and his organization.

Some recent coaching news sheds some light on how some impressive assistants coaches feel about what is being built under head coach Kellen Moore.

Scott Tolzien will return to Saints after interviewing with Steelers

According to Jordan Schultz, quarterbacks coach Scott Tolzien plans to stay in New Orleans under Kellen Moore. He recently interviewed for the Pittsburgh Steelers offensive coordinator job under Mike McCarthy. Tolzien was widely expected to be one of the top candidates for that position, but he’s opting to work with the Saints.

Tolzien created a strong relationship with Tyler Shough in his rookie season, so this is a massive development to keep a similar coaching group around the young quarterback for next season and possibly beyond.

Chase Haslett also chooses to stay with Kellen Moore and Tyler Shough

Via reports, Chase Haslett, the Saints tight ends coach, will also stick around with New Orleans. He interviewed with the Steelers for a potential promotion as well.

Jordan Schultz noted that it was Haslett’s decision to remain with Moore’s staff. He clearly believes that New Orleans is on an upward trajectory that he would like to be a part of. While Haslett is not Shough’s position coach. he still plays a notable hand in the preparation for the unit weekly. The Saints value his voice.

It cannot be understated how vital these sort of staff decisions can be for the youthful talent on the Saints offense. There is already a lot of steam behind Moore as a head coach and bright, young offensive mind.

Now, he has already built a staff where other, experienced head coaches are attempting to poach the assistants involved away. Instead of jumping ship, they’re staying strong with the black and gold.
