Kellen Moore's New Orleans Saints officially have a new quarterback in the mix. Louisville QB Tyler Shough was the 40th pick of the 2025 NFL Draft, which spurred plenty of mixed opinions on social media. 

Tyler Shough went viral for the wrong reason before the draft

During the 2025 NFL Scouting Combine, Shough uncorked quite the "duck" while ,making a throw over the middle. It was a rough look for the experienced starter in college football, but Kellen Moore clearly did not allow it to prevent him from drafting Shough early on day two. 

Kellen Moore's praise for Shough

Moore is confident in his new QB. Of course, that's to be expected when a first-time head coach invests in a rookie at the position. Moore listed Shough's experience, mind for the game and ability to make off-platform throw as reasons that he made sense for the Saints. 

The Saints HC has worked with some very impressive talents at the QB position in recent seasons, including Justin Herbert, Jalen Hurts, and Dak Prescott. He's learned what works in today's NFL when it comes to QB play. 

Shough's throws that would impress anyone

While that throw at the combine was horrific, Shough made some really impressive throws during his college career. 

Shough can move around the pocket better than you may expect at his size, and he layered the ball effectively at times, particularly in his final season in CFB at Louisville. I attached some intriguing highlights from the QB below.  

It's fair to assume that Shough will compete for the starting QB role as a rookie this upcoming season for the Saints. 

It feels likely that Shough will battle it out with Spencer Rattler for that role, unless the Derek Carr situation takes a major turn to get him back into the mix.
