The New Orleans Saints saw some inconsistencies last season when it came to their kicking game. In actuality, the past two seasons haven't been ideal from a field goal perspective in New Orleans. Wil Lutz has not been particularly healthy, and his replacements have struggled.
One veteran kicker just got released, and the Saints should give him a call. The Denver Broncos just released Brandon McManus.
Last season was a bit more inconsistent for McManus, but he has had an extremely impressive career for Denver. Before last season, he made over 80% of his field goal attempts for four straight seasons. Many folks considered him a top kicker in the NFL during that span.
McManus is the second-highest scorer in Broncos history. He also won a Super Bowl with the franchise.
"Brandon has been a key player and presence with the Broncos for nearly a decade, making outstanding contributions to our team and community," Broncos general manager George Paton said in a statement on Tuesday. "Developing into one of the NFL's most productive kickers, Brandon made so many clutch kicks for this franchise over the years as a Super Bowl champion and team captain. He will always hold a special place in Denver Broncos history. We thank Brandon for all he did for the Broncos, and we wish him and his family the very best in the future."
With the unpredictability of Lutz' future, adding McManus to create a veteran competition could make a ton of sense for the Saints.
