The New Orleans Saints have begun their interview requests to get a new offensive coordinator. They moved on from long-time OC Pete Carmichael Jr. earlier in the week, and they've requested interviews for three different coaches.

The first two were with current quarterbacks coaches. One was Cincinnati Bengals QBs coach Dan Pitcher. The other was current Los Angeles Rams QBs coach Zac Robinson. Both have strong ties to Sean McVay and his coaching tree.

Their latest interview request is with Seattle Seahawks offensive coordinator Shane Waldron.

Multiple teams have requested Waldron for a head coaching position interview. He's a popular name around the NFL. He became available with the Seahawks' firing of HC Pete Carroll. Waldron took over the Seattle offense in 2021. He's risen up the ranks around the league due to the rejuvenation of Geno Smith's career at quarterback.

Seattle was 12th in offensive DVOA this past season. That ranking came with plenty of injuries to their running back room and offensive line. Smith was banged up at QB, too.

Waldron also previously worked under head coach Sean McVay with the Rams. That makes three candidates in a row for the Saints that has connections to his coaching tree.

That's a great sign for New Orleans. Mcvay's offense has taken over the NFL, and many successful head coaches/offensive coordinators have taken large chunks from his scheme.

The interest in that type of OC is clear, even this early in the process for the Saints. Their offense is going to look much different from a play-calling standpoint in 2024.
