The New Orleans Saints let it be known that quarterback Jameis Winston was going to do things their way, or he was out.

As he heads into his ninth NFL season, Winston decided the Saints were right as he has re-signed with them on a one-year deal.

Winston's salary is why this was a smart move for him. At his age and current ability, Winston wasn't likely to get $8 million for one year anywhere else.

Winston was the No. 1 overall pick in 2015 by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. During his rookie campaign, the Buccaneers weren't a good team, going 6-10. However, Winston threw for 4,042 yards and made the Pro Bowl.

In 2019, his last season with the Buccaneers, he led the NFL with 5,109 yards and threw 33 touchdowns. The unfortunate part, especially for Tampa Bay, he also led the league with 30 interceptions, making him the first quarterback with at least 30 touchdowns and 30 interceptions in the same year in NFL history.

When he came to the Saints in 2020, Winston was the backup to Drew Brees for his final NFL campaign.

Winston won the starting job the next year. After the Saints started the season 5-2, Winton tore his ACL and was done for the season.

Last season, Winston would lose the starting job to Andy Dalton after a back injury which led to him being disgruntled because he was told that wouldn't happen.

That's quite a few ups and downs. However, the Saints' new starting quarterback Derek Carr has his backup for the 2023 season.
