The NFL Draft is full of smokescreens, lying, and lobbying. For the New Orleans Saints, one of their NFC South rivals could throw a wrench into their first-round plans for this year's draft.

Panthers shopping eighth overall pick?

Via their own social media, the Carolina Panthers even made a case for Colorado QB Shedeur Sanders. The Saints are the current betting favorites to pick Sanders.

It's an ownership and mindset that, when coupled with his talent and swag, Shedeur Sanders feels makes him the best quarterback in the draft. He's supremely confident though, so no one should expect anything less. — Panthers.com

With the emergence and development of Bryce Young last season, the Panthers do not seem to be in the QB market during this year's draft. Accordingly, this sort of post is a bit more intriguing than if another team would have posted it.

Joe Person discussed the trade back concept for Carolina and how it may affect the Saints in a recent article. It makes plenty of sense for New Orleans' rival.

It’s not a stretch to suggest the Carr news prompted a similar response from the Carolina Panthers’ decision-makers. With the Saints now seemingly in the market for a quarterback, Carr’s status could directly impact the Panthers’ pick at No. 8, one spot ahead of where the Saints sit in the draft.

First, any other team targeting Sanders (or another quarterback) could look to move in front of the Saints by trading with the Panthers, who are open to the idea of moving back depending on what happens in front of them in the draft, according to league sources.

Saints' potential plan for a new QB

If Moore is interested in Sanders, this sort of posturing by Carolina can certainly make him and the organization nervous. They know, for a fact, that the Panthers may be open to moving back in round one to help another team get ahead of the Saints to draft Sanders.

In that instance, New Orleans would have to settle for a QB prospect like Jaxson Dart, Tyler Shough, among others.

Only time will tell if a team wants to move up to that Panthers selection, though. It takes two to tango. We will see if there's a dance that happens right before the Saints pick on night one next week.
