The Saints could have a very, very special rookie class if one thing goes their way, and it's starting to look more and more possible.

Let's be honest real quick. There are really three guys who headline this class drafted by the New Orleans Saints. Sure, the others could do some stuff and have impacts, too, but three guys have star potential.

The Saints drafted Chris Olave, Trevor Penning, and Alontae Taylor with their first three picks. Olave could win offensive rookie of the year, and Taylor is looking on his way to becoming a lockdown cornerback.

If they want this class to be special, they just need one thing to happen for them, and it looks to be on the way.

"Yeah, Alontae [Taylor] is a great player," Olave said when asked about the rookie class as a whole. "He's a competitor, and that is what I like most about him. He is always going to compete and he wants to go against the best at the end of the day. I feel like we are similar in that, and we play the game with passion.

"I can't wait for Trevor [Penning] to get out there. I know he has been dealing with an injury. It has been a long rookie year, but I feel like if we can get him back soon, it's going to be a huge year for us."

Just from what we saw in college at Northern Iowa, and the little we have seen of Penning since being in the league, he can be a dominant offensive lineman.

He is designated for a return this week, which means we could see him in action on Sunday against the Pittsburgh Steelers, who will also have their best pass rusher back in T.J. Watt.

If he does come back and play some significant time, Pittsburgh will be a great test for him. He can show why he was drafted as high as he was.

As for the class as a whole, those three guys just need Penning to pull his weight. Taylor is getting it done on defense, creating disruption against opposing team receivers, and Olave is already one of the better pass catchers in the league.

Man, Saints fans should be excited about what the future holds for the organization and those three guys.
