The New Orleans Saints have been searching for linebacker depth. Meanwhile, it may have been on the roster in the form of a rookie the entire time. In the team's preseason win number one last Sunday, LB Anfernee Orji played very well. He had an impact on both defense and special teams. That goes a long way towards earning a roster spot in the NFL.

After Andrew Dowell's season-ending injury early last week, the Saints signed veteran LB Jaylon Smith. He is expected to take over the LB3 role, but New Orleans needs to be comfortable with their depth behind him in case of more injuries.

Orji's performance last week didn't go unnoticed by Pro Football Focus, either. He was their second-highest rated rookie defender.

Orji led the team in tackles with three. He and Ty Summers were the two depth linebackers that jumped off the page for the Saints in preseason Week 1. We will see if they can continue that trend against the Chargers this weekend.
