The New Orleans Saints defense has been lead by Tyrann Mathieu for quite some time. Many fans fell in love with the safety during his time with the LSU Tigers in college, but his time in New Orleans has taken it to the next level of appreciation.
In March, Mathieu told the media that he would like to retire with the Saints. Now, he may have released some more hints regarding hanging up his cleats on social media.
Tyrann Mathieu on retiring
Mathieu gave fans an inside look at his plans on social media this past weekend. The posts were deleted off of X/Twitter, but his statements could be how he expects the rest of his playing career to go, followed by potential coaching.
Mathieu said that wants to play at least two more years. The safety also added that he “cannot wait to get to Baton Rouge & coach,” a nod to LSU as they experience some turmoil with HC Brian Kelly.
The long-time NFL veteran is one of the most beloved athletes in Louisiana history.
From dominating as one of the best defensive backs in college football during the 2000s to becoming a key cog in the Saints unit, Mathieu has represented his birth place in an amazing way. Not to mention, he has always stayed committed and headstrong in being involved with the communities around the state.
Mathieu may only play for a couple more seasons in black and gold, but expect many more glimpses of him around both the Saints and LSU for the foreseeable future.
