The New Orleans Saints have finished their season in last place in the NFC South. Luckily for fans, change is coming on the staff after Dennis Allen was fired in early November.
Interim head coach Darren Rizzi will reportedly interview for the full-time position, but other options will get a chance at grabbing the job opening as well.
Saints request interview with Weaver
According to Dianna Russini, the Saints would like to speak to Miami Dolphins defensive coordinator Anthony Weaver.
Weaver is looked at as one of the biggest risers in NFL coaching circles. This season was his first as a DC, but he has garnered a lot of respect for his climb through coaching ranks.
The coach is a former NFL player as well. He spent seven years in the pros during his playing career.
Before landing in Miami, Weaver spent three seasons with the Baltimore Ravens as their defensive line coach. He was their assistant head coach in 2022 as well.
Weaver, 44, has spent just one season with the Dolphins, but he helped improve Miami to become a top 10 defense in several areas. In 2024, the Dolphins allowed the fourth-fewest yards per game and 10th-least amount of points. They were ninth against the pass and run. — NOLA.com
The Saints seemingly do not have a preference on a type of coach, whether offensive or defensive minded. They've requested interviews for both type of assistants, including Philadelphia Eagles OC Kellen Moore and Detroit Lions DC Aaron Glenn, too.
The widespread interest in Weaver began last offseason. The Washington Commanders and Atlanta Falcons interviewed Weaver last offseason before choosing veteran head coach options.
Weaver is expected to get multiple interviews during this offseason's coaching search around the league. We will see if he lands one of the openings.
