Trade deadline day has arrived around the NFL. For the New Orleans Saints, it needs to be a busy day of selling assets for draft compensation. And they’ve made their first notable move, dealing away talented speedster Rashid Shaheed to an NFC foe.

Saints trade WR Rashid Shaheed to Seahawks

According to Tom Pelissero, the Saints are trading WR/returner Rashid Shaheed to the Seattle Seahawks in exchange for a 2026 fourth and fifth-round pick. Shaheed is still just 27 but is in the final year of his contract. He will need an extension this offseason.

Shaheed is one of the best punt returners in the NFL and was a Pro Bowl selection and an All-Pro in 2023. This season, Shaheed has totaled 44 receptions for 499 yards and two touchdowns. So far in his pro career, the dynamic weapon has recorded 138 catches for 2,055 yards and 12 TDs. Shaheed instantly steps into a downfield role for Seattle, where he is reunited with former Saints OC Klint Kubiak.

The wideout found success last season under Kubiak on play-action shots downfield from Derek Carr and Spencer Rattler. With Seahawks QB Sam Darnold playing at his current high level, adding Shaheed to the mix should only improve a passing offense that is already near the top in the NFC.
