Contract talks. Never fun. Especially for folks outside of the building, contract negotiations are always a polarizing subject around professional sports. For New Orleans Saints star running back Alvin Kamara, he's been in the middle of those discussions this offseason.
His early exit from camp, media members' constant whispers regarding the situation, and New Orleans' uncertainty at RB depth behind him, there is a ton of intrigue surrounding Kamara's future in black and gold.
Kamara discussed his contract, future in the pros, and plenty more with NOFNetwork's Nick Underhill recently. Check out that entire piece from the Saints insider here.
Alvin Kamara makes strong statement regarding contract situation
"I’m kind of like, I’m going to play as long as it’s serving me. Not in the sense of money, but as long as I’m still loving and having fun, I’m going to play.”
This was one of many notable comments from the long-time Saints fan favorite. Clearly, Kamara is not focused on just getting paid. Some mislead fans may believe that to be the case, but in reality, he just holds himself in high regard.
As he should, Kamara is one of the most talented pure runners in football. In recent years, his productivity has dipped when it comes to efficiency due to lesser QB play and below mediocre play-calling on offense.
Kamara's talent should never come into question. As for the contract talks, the current running back landscape is tough to maneuver for aging players.
As you approach thirty years old, it is extremely difficult to lock down a long-term contract unless your name is Christian McCaffrey. Most players simply do not get those chances, plain and simple.
For Kamara, he doubled down on this sentiment that he's not focused on getting paid as the Saints begin their 2024 season recently. He wants to have fun, win, and contribute for his teammates.
"It's too late for contract talk. Like I told yall when I got to LA, if it gets done cool, if it don't, cool. I'm kind of at the point where I'm like, I'm not even talking about it until after the season. " — Kamara
The Saints veteran running back is locked in for the upcoming season ahead where the Saints need to find more consistency on offense.
