The New Orleans Saints caught some headlines last week. That was due to nothing that they did on their own, though.

Instead, former NFL cornerback Adam Jones threw baseless insults at the Saints defense from a season ago. Some outlets picked up on it from the Pat McAfee Show, and it proceeded to gain steam on social media.

Tyrann Mathieu responded in defense of the Saints defense on Twitter this week – as did some other players.

The unit got off to a bit of a slow start, but by mid-season, the defense really found its stride.

It was the strongest part of the team for much of the year in New Orleans. The secondary was the best part of the defense, too. When healthy, Marshon Lattimore was very good last year.

The safeties played well in the second half of the year, especially Mathieu. He actually had one of his best seasons in recent years, overall.

Plus, players like Alontae Taylor stepped up at CB. He looks like a solid CB2 for the Saints now.

Overall, Jones' argument seemed out of touch. His numbers weren't correct, and he was reaching for anything to defend himself.

The Saints did the defending last season. Hopefully, the offense provides them with more help this season.
