The New Orleans Saints just somehow got involved in a bit of drama – in a way that no fans would have probably expected. The situation involved former Saints head coach Sean Payton and New York Giants backup quarterback Russell Wilson.

Russell Wilson makes bounty system reference against Sean Payton after recent comments

Russell Wilson is officially pulling no punches. After recent praise from Payton for Jaxson Dart, the veteran quarterback fired back at the Broncos head coach. Keep in mind – the relationship between Wilson and Payton strained by the end of their season together in Denver.

“Classless… but not surprised… Didn’t realize you’re still bounty hunting 15+ years later through the media.” — Wilson on Payton via social media

This response from Wilson stems from postgame comments from Payton after the Denver Broncos completed a massive comeback against Wilson’s Giants. Of course, Wilson didn’t play in that game. Instead, rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart got the start and clearly has impressed the long-time offensive guru head coach.

Payton was reportedly hoping that New York wouldn’t start Dart until after this Week 7 clash. That was a subtle, but clear, shot at Wilson, who played for Payton in Denver before joining the Giants quarterback room. Wilson started this season as the starting QB for the Giants but lost the job after Week 3.

Why should the Saints or their fans care? Well, Wilson’s statement mentioned the alleged bounty system that was in place in New Orleans for part of Payton’s tenure with the organization. Payton caught plenty of flak for the situation and his handling of it all. Not to mention, the former Saints HC was also suspended for the entire 2012 NFL season due to the scandal.

Now, we know that Wilson has kept some bullets in the chamber to fire back at Payton if he sees fit. After the shots were first fired by the coach, the veteran QB figured why not, clearly.
