Returning New Orleans Saints tight end Jimmy Graham gave his agent an ultimatum before signing his new deal in The Big Easy. He said that if he wasn't making a return to New Orleans, he was done playing in the NFL.
On one hand, that's real commitment from the former Saints star. On the other hand, it shows that his career is certainly winding down. He isn't the athlete that he once was, but he is still driven to produce for the Saints this year. It helps to be a red zone target when you're 6'7" still, though.
Saints fans will appreciate that Graham wanted to retire a Saint – no matter what.
If that meant playing this year for New Orleans, he was open to it. If not, he was going to sign a one-day deal to retire with the organization. His commitment is commendable after a rocky end to his first tenure with the franchise. Contract negotiations went south back then, and he was ultimately traded to Seattle for Max Unger.
Fast forward to 2023, and he is back in the black and gold. Head coach Dennis Allen says that they have a clear role for Graham. It should be intriguing to watch this season.
