The New Orleans Saints had a couple of important free-agent visits so far this week. Veteran running back Kareem Hunt and linebacker Anthony Barr both met with the Saints. Apparently, those meetings went well. The Saints need proven experience at both spots.

According to Dianna Russini, New Orleans is expected to sign both players if they pass their physicals.

Hunt is a former rushing champion who has backed up star running back Nick Chubb over the past four seasons. He ran for over 800 yards and six touchdowns in 2020. In 2017, Hunt led the NFL in rushing with 1,327 yards. He has consistently averaged over four yards per carry during his NFL career.

His addition would be important due to Alvin Kamara's three-game suspension to start the regular season.

Barr would be an experienced LB that would play impactful snaps for the Saints this year. Andrew Dowell suffered a season-ending injury last week, and Demario Davis has missed multiple practices with injury so far in camp. Pete Werner missed a good chunk of time last year with injury, too.

Barr would slide in front of unproven players on the depth chart to help out the Saints defense. He played in fourteen (ten starts) games for the Dallas Cowboys last season, totaling 58 tackles. Barr is absolutely still a capable player at 31 years old. He is a four-time Pro Bowler.

Linebacker depth has been a major need during the Saints' entire offseason. This move would address it.
