Saints: Two free agents that New Orleans needs to target now
They make sense for the Saints.
The New Orleans Saints are having some success finding depth in the free agency pool so far. Their work isn't done, though.
They have some cap space still to work with, so more moves should be on the way.
There's a couple of free agents that stand out for a couple of reasons. The two players play positions of need for the Saints, and they would not cost the team a compensation pick in next year's draft.
Gabe Jackson, offensive guard
Jackson is a 32-year old NFL veteran. He's played meaningful snaps in the NFL for nearly a decade, and he would provide solid depth on inside of the OL for the Saints.
Their starters are set with Andrus Peat and Cesar Ruiz – probably, but more depth behind them is needed for the Saints. With his experience, he could help the young players on the depth chart as well.
He's been consistent in his time in the NFL, much of it coming recently with the Seattle Seahawks. Jackson allowed just two sacks in over 600 offensive snaps last season.
Shelby Harris, defensive tackle
Harris has been an underrated force on the inside in the NFL for years. He was recently let go by the Seattle Seahawks after coming over in the Russell Wilson trade.
That being said, that was probably due to money and youth more than anything. For the Saints, he would provide massive pass rush upside that they don't possess right now on their interior defensive line.
Harris is a more talented sack artist than either of the two DTs that the Saints have already signed. He totaled 30 pressures last season.
The Saints could absolutely use his talent, too.
