Everyone breathe. I know you are excited. The Saints are 2-0 after a 44-19 bashing of the Dallas Cowboys in Arlington, Texas.
After plenty of national media doubt surrounding the black and gold, they made the entire NFL world do a double take with an outrageously impressive performance against one of the most talented teams in the NFC.
Would you look at that? Playing the Carolina Panthers in Week 1 did not mean that their dominance in that matchup was meaningless, it seems.
Saints offense runs on all cylinders… again
Another week. Another Klint Kubiak masterclass for the Saints offense. What was Pete Carmichael Jr. doing last season, exactly?
With similar player talent/skill and the same quarterback, the Saints offensive unit looks night and day compared to 2023. Alvin Kamara looks the best he has ever looked in his pro career. He totaled four touchdowns against Dallas.
Derek Carr was efficient once again, with Rashid Shaheed making a massive play early in the game once again. That seems like clockwork at his point, and someone will have to prove they can stop it.
As for Taysom Hill, his unique role in expanding. He was a lead blocker on a handful of successful run plays and converted an important third down on the ground himself, too.
Secondary steps up without Lattimore
The Saints secondary had two turnovers forced, including a game-sealing interception by Tyrann Mathieu. Rookie cornerback Kool-Aid McKinstry did not look overwhelmed in his first start whatsoever, and Paulson Adebo played a strong game on the outside with him.
New Orleans was laying hard hits on pass catchers for the Cowboys all afternoon long. They took the doubt personally, entering Week 2.
Alontae Taylor continues to impress, laying multiple big hits down in the run game and taking care of CeeDee Lamb when he lined up in the slot.
The unit is more talented with the former Pro Bowler in the lineup, but they were really impressive without him in Week 2.
Penning and Fuaga shut down Micah Parsons
Yes, you read that correctly. Along with some smart scheming to use chippers to help block the star pass rusher, both tackles played extremely well against one of the best defensive lines in the NFC.
Fuaga was dealing with back tightness entering the game. You never would have known, though. He played another incredible game as a rookie.
Penning's only blemish was a penalty on an extra point try. Outside of that, he moved folks in the run game and held up well in front of Derek Carr. The Saints quarterback stayed clean all game, only getting pressure a handful of times.
Carr was sacked just once against Dallas. That came on a rush attempt by Carr where he was forced out of bounds after a one-yard loss.
All in all, you cannot see much negative for the Saints after two weeks. The offense has been the best in football. The defense is getting stops in crunch time and forcing turnovers.
We will see if New Orleans can keep the vibes high in Week 3. They are undefeated after two games to begin the 2024 season.
