Battle of the boxers. That'll be how the August 11th, 2023, practice for the New Orleans Saints will be remembered. Well, maybe not, but there was the team's first preseason scuffle on Friday. It's NFL football. It gets heated and emotional, and fights aren't necessarily a negative if handled effectively afterwards.

Players are battling for a roster spot or playing time during this point of the year. Tempers flare, and that's what happened between a handful of teammates.

According to John Hendrix, linemen got into a bit. The group included Erik McCoy, Nathan Shepherd, Carl Granderson, and Trevor Penning.

Head coach Dennis Allen had a strong statement to the team regarding the tussle afterwards. He made it clear that they were football players – not boxers.

"If we want to act like boxers, we'll start training like boxers & get on the side & run."

Overall, the fight is nothing to fret about for fans. In actuality, it is good to see the energy increasing as the season approaches. Guys are chomping at the bit to get on the field as much as possible for the Saints this season.
