The New Orleans Saints had a huge performance on defense in Week 5 against the New England Patriots. They were smothering at every level.

Rookie safety Jordan Howden played really well alongside Tyrann Mathieu. Howden has been starting in the place of the suspended Marcus Maye.

Mayor, however, is set to return from his suspension this week for the Saints. What does that mean for Howden, who has impressed so far?

Howden jarred the ball loose on Pete Werner's interception. He has shown off his instincts and tackling ability on multiple occasions during his increased playing time. Tyrann Mathieu has often complimented Howden's game before and during this season.

To start the year, Maye was inconsistent – to say the least. That being said, he is a veteran that will get his spot back when he returns. That isn't necessarily the wrong decision, either.

Howden will revert back to the 'dime back' for the Saints. That's where Johnathan Abram has been playing recently for New Orleans. That averages out to around 35-50% of snaps.

Accordingly, Howden will still see the field. Keep an eye on Maye when he returns, though, because the Saints have a young DB that made plays in his absence.
