Sean Payton sends heartfelt message to Drew Brees following Saints legend’s prestigious induction into Hall of Fame
The former Saints coach was clearly emotional for his QB.
The New Orleans Saints got to relive some glory days this past week when legendary quarterback Drew Brees was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. The fan favorite was on the ballot for the first time, and voters wasted no time getting him into the prestigious grouping.
Former Saints head coach and now current Denver Broncos HC Sean Payton was understandably emotional regarding the news. He’s happy to see Brees get his roses for what he did for New Orleans both on and off the field.

In a social media post alongside a picture of Brees hoisting the Lombardi Trophy, Payton penned a heartfelt message for the QB that helped him reach unbelievable heights and an offensive mind and head coach in the NFL.
“He came when most were leaving…Set a bar so high for all of us….He lead immediately…. He’s OUR 1st Ballot HOF QB! Congratulations Drew Brees. Also, Congratulations to Your wife Brittany, Baylen, Bowen, Callen and Rylen. It was an honor to have coached you.”
The Saints will never forget Brees or Payton. The duo changed the trajectory of not only a franchise on the gridiron, but also an entire city.
“Brees, the longtime New Orleans Saints star, retired after the 2020 season as a 13-time Pro Bowl selection. He led the league in passing seven times, had a record five 5,000-yard passing seasons, and his 80,538 passing yards were an NFL record when he retired (eclipsed by Tom Brady in 2021).” — ESPN
Hurricane Katrina rocked New Orleans, and plenty of people lost loved ones, homes, pets, and so much more. Brees helped fans of Saints football have hope for something as minor as a sporting event and hold team to root for that had a clear leader who would mold into a legend.
