The Senior Bowl always provides NFL teams with some extra film and opportunities to get a feel for experienced draft prospects off the football field.

For the New Orleans Saints, one player already has ties to the team and fan base that could impact whether or not he lands in black and gold.

LSU QB Garrett Nussmeier wears Saints gear at Senior Bowl

During the Senior Bowl, Nussmeier dawned a Saints beanie that got plenty of reactions on social media. Plenty of Saints fans are also a part of the Tigers fandom. That piece of the fan base is almost certainly hoping he can land in New Orleans with his dad, Doug, who is the offensive coordinator for the Saints.

Nussmeier was named the MVP of the Senior Bowl.

Garrett talked about his dad’s impact on his prep for life in the NFL and how current pros have played a role in his development during his college days.

“I’m extremely blessed to have him [Doug] in my life,” Nussmeier said. “To have an upper hand in the sense of knowing what to expect. Being around guys he’s coached in the last six or seven years like Dak (Prescott), Jalen Hurts, Justin Herbert and now Tyler in his first year. Just being able to study those guys from afar and see how they interact has helped me a lot.”

OC Doug Nussmeier could push for Saints to draft his son

We could see the veteran coach push Kellen Moore and the Saints front office to draft his son at some point to be Tyler Shough’s backup. Jake Haener is set to be a free agent, and utility player Taysom Hill may or may not keep playing. Spencer Rattler remains in the fold, but New Orleans will have to add another QB this offseason in some capacity.

“‘I’ll leave that to his coaches, but we are working to evaluate the whole roster. Here as a dad to see Garrett, but also working as a coach with the Saints to look at the offensive players,’ Doug Nussmeier said.” — Jon Sokoloff, WGNO

Maybe – the LSU quarterback would make the most sense due to his connections with the organization already. Only time will tell.
